As a child, I was made to go to church and learn how to be good so that, after I die, I could go to Heaven. I had questions that no one seemed to have answers to and would always remind me that God works in mysterious ways. I figured that if God wanted us to know him/her, they would make it easier to do so. Even as a child I did not trust just because I was told to.
I had to have a reason.
There were phrases that stood out to me, however, that made me take pause and wonder if there was more to those phrases than just some artistic and creative writing. Things like, God is light, the power of God's might, the Alpha and the Omega, and God always has been and always will be. These phrases, in my mind, always sounded like more than just the scribing of a medieval monk. To me, this sounded like -
Science.
So was the Bible trying to describe the Atom? If we look at the definition of "atom" we get the following:
"atom, smallest unit into which matter can be divided without the release of electrically charged particles. It also is the smallest unit of matter that has the characteristic properties of a chemical element. As such, the atom is the basic building block of chemistry." (Source: https://www.britannica.com/science/atom)
So if the Atom is the smallest unit into which matter can be divided, what then makes up the Atom? Atoms are made of protons, neutrons and electrons, with each having either a positive or negative electrical charge.
There is a wonderful article in Forbes by Jack Fraser Master's Physics, University of Oxford which you can read HERE. However, I will do my best to paraphrase what he said in his article.
We are constructed of cells, which are constructed of Atoms. Each atom has its own energy field and, when placed next to another atom, they can then interact with each others field. This interaction can create atomic bonding which allows each atom to find a way to coexist with the other.
But that's all on the foundation level. There are many other ways in which the body uses energy. The synapse in the brain fires electrical signal back and forth between the hemispheres to communicate. Additionally, most living creatures create and emit thermal radiation.
"Yes, all objects, including human bodies, emit electromagnetic radiation. The wavelength of radiation emitted depends on the temperature of the objects. Such radiation is sometimes called thermal radiation. Most of the radiation emitted by human body is in the infrared region, mainly at the wavelength of 12 micron. The wavelength of infrared radiation is between 0.75 to 1000 micron (1 micron = 10-6 metres). This wavelength is longer than that of red visible light so this explains the name 'infrared', meaning 'beyond the red'. " (LEE Shuk-ming, Olivia, Hong Kong Observatory, 2010)
Here is a fun little factoid from a 2014 Stanford University Paper:
"The average human, at rest, produces around 100 watts of power. [2] Over periods of a few minutes, humans can comfortably sustain 300-400 watts; and in the case of very short bursts of energy, such as sprinting, some humans can output over 2,000 watts." (Human Energy Converted to Electricity, Lo'eau LaBonta)
So why is this important? What does this mean? Well, if the laws of thermodynamics are correct, energy cannon be create or destroyed. It always was and always will be (sound familiar?) It can only transform and move on into the entropy of the universe
So if we are energy and constructed from the same elements as the universe, then when our bodies stop, that energy which makes us who we are may still live on.
This is mind blowing!! I love this website Phil!!👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻
